...providing help and hope for families with
challenging children...

UPLIFT UNDERSTANDS…
The entire family feels the impact of a child with an emotional or behavioral disorder. This child may be physically, emotionally and financially draining. Parents are often reluctant to talk openly about their child’s problems with relatives, professionals or friends and often don’t know where to go for help.

The majority of staff members at UPLIFT are family members of children with emotional disorders and really do care and understand.

Service Descriptions

Advocacy Services
Family Outreach Specialists work with family members to prepare them for meetings at school, service agencies, and the courts. As they prepare, they will identify issues of concern and recommended actions.

Family Outreach Specialists then attend the meetings with the family member to assist in advocating for the most appropriate services for their child.

Individual Support Services
Family Outreach Specialists work with family members in person or by phone to discuss their child’s case, listen to concerns of the family, and provide verbal support and encouragement for positive family involvement in child’s treatment.

UPLIFT Family Outreach Specialists
Professionals and paraprofessionals with specific training in effective communication and advocacy skills, rules & regulations regarding education, and childhood emotional disorders.

Referral Services
Family Outreach Specialists work with family members in person or by phone to assist in finding the most appropriate services for their child. Assistance in filling out applications and arranging for appointments can also be provided.

Parent Support Groups
Monthly parent support groups are facilitated in selected communities. Contact the UPLIFT office for more information.

Positive Parenting Program

The Triple P Program is a multi-level, prevention-oriented parenting and family support strategy. This program aims to prevent mild to moderate to sever behavioral, emotional and developmental problems in children and adolescents by enhancing the knowledge, skills and confidence of parents.

Informational Services
Informational newsletters and brochures are available on a number of issues relating to childhood emotional disorders. A lending library containing books, tapes, and videos is available to families across the state. Contact the UPLIFT offices for available titles.

UPLIFT does not have the resources to provide financial support to families, but will assist in locating all available resources.
